ASHES -Study

Title:

Understanding the relationship between adolescent socioeconomic status and sexual risk behaviors in Kisumu, Kenya (the Adolescent Sexual Health and Economic Study – ASHES)

Purpose:

To understand how adolescents and young adults conceptualize social and economic status
(SES) and how it relates to sexual behavior

Objectives:

  1. Explore how adolescents and young adults conceptualize socioeconomic status
  2. Explore the pathways through which various markers of SES are linked to behaviors that increase HIV risk (i.e. transactional sex, multiple sexual partners, condom-less sex).
  3.  Identify the type of economic interventions AYA are interested in participating in

Cross-sectional study design

Population:

Adolescent and young adults (AYA) aged 15-24 years, primary caregivers of AYA

Study Site:

Impact Research and Development Organization, Kisumu, Kenya

Duration:

6  months
