The CRS has several functional units which include Clinic, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Regulatory, and Community Liason Units.
CLINIC
The K-IRDO CRS Clinic is housed within the IRTHS (Tuungane Hospital), a facility that offers inpatient and outpatient services.
It boasts a high state of the art facilities that include:
- Clinical / Physical examinations rooms
- IP administration rooms
- Consenting / Interview Rooms
- Theatre
- Maternal and Child Health Clinic
- Maternal / Labour Ward
- Pedriatic ward
- Male / Female Wards
PHARMACY
The K-IRDO CRS pharmacy habours a robust and versatile infrastructure that includes:
- Biosafety cabinet Class IIA
- Refrigerator for maintaining temperatures of between 2°C and 8°C
- Freezer set at -25°C
- Ultra-low freezers of upto -80°C
- Room temperature monitor thermometers
- Air conditioning units to maintain a consistent temperature range of between 18°C an 25°C.
LABORATORY
Our ISO 15189:2012 certified, Class E Laboratory is registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board Laboratory and is accredited by the Kenya National Accreditation Services (KENAS)
It is well-equipped to facilitate various functions, including:
- A Cepheid 4 module GeneXpert Dx®System Version 6.2 POCT Analyzer: used for conducting viral load assessments, screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis tests and performing HIV confirmatory testing.
- A 5-part Hematology analyser
- A Biochemistry analyser: suitable for routine biochemistry tests and cardiac enzyme analyses
- Chemiluminescence Immunoassay analyser (CLIA): used to analyse a wide range of infectious diseases, tumor markers, thyroid tests, and various other diagnostic assessments.
- Biosafety cabinet Class IIA
- A -80°C freezer capable of accommodating up to 10,000 cryovials of samples equipped with a Continuous Temperature Monitoring Device
- A -20°C freezer and a (2-8) °C refrigerator, equipped with a Continuous Temperature Monitoring Device
